Flippin Shallow or Riggin Deep
Most exciting fishing experience
How Doug preps for a tournament
Study Google Earth and Weather.com while bitching about not having time on the water to actually evaluate current conditions.
Three favorite search baits
Best tournament finish and what you did that day when you were fishing.
Most challenging part of tournament fishing
Adjusting to the conditions of the day and time management.
When tournaments don't go my way
Analyze what went differently than I hoped and consider what I should have done, or at least tried. I've learned far more about fishing from my bad days than I have from my good days.
Advice to give to an aspiring tournament angler:
Enter the co-angler division in as many draw tournaments as you can afford to and have time for, including traveling away from your home lake. This includes everything from local clubs to regional tours to national pro tours. Pay attention to EVERYTHING. You'll experience many styles of fishing, many brands of boats and equipment, many personalities, time management, etc., etc. and will quickly find which of these things best suits YOU. You'll learn a ton from watching youtube and reading magazines, but nothing beats time on the water. Draw tournaments expose you to the most diversity in the shortest amount of time.
