How James preps for a tournament

I try to pre-fish one or two days for the tourney.  Look at tide charts, weather reports and try to adjust to each one and apply what you learned in practice.  What worked?  What didn't work... most of the time it applies to what is happening for the next few days.

Three favorite search baits

Traps, chatterbaits and a creature bait.

Best tournament finish and what you did that day when you were fishing.

Best one... Upper Chesapeake Bay.  4-22-17

Threw a rattle trap all day around grass ranging from 2 to 7 feet of water with a slow to moderate retrieve letting the lure tick the tops of the grass clumps.

Most challenging part of tournament fishing

It's never the exact same.  Making adjustments each time out.  Keeps you thinking.

When tournaments don't go my way

Learn from my mistakes and try to learn from each event no matter how bad I done.

Advice to give to an aspiring tournament angler:

Write down notes, what was the water temps, lures, month, weather conditions, water depths, tides... it helps out a lot.
