What you should know about Kevin:
How Kevin started fishing
I got my start in fishing by going with my grandparents.
Aspirations or goals with fishing
I wouldn’t mind making a run at fishing at the professional level .
Favorite way to fish
I love fishing shallow water year round.
Most exciting fishing experience
Other than getting to spend time with my kids on the boat and making memories with them. The fishing trip I took with a friend to Lake Chickamauga in the summer of 2014 would be my best fishing experience. We were out fishing on a hot and humid day up in a creek looking for cooler water. We saw some isolated timber up along the bank in some shade. We decided to start fishing it, and on my fourth cast my bait landed right beside a small tree limb and as I started my retrieve the bait was slammed hard, and the fight was on. It took maybe two minutes to get the fish to the boat. I knew the fish was a big but I didn’t expect what I saw in the net. After landing the fish and getting myself calmed down web took a few pictures and weighed the fish it turned out to be my personal best a 9.15 lb largemouth bass. The fish was released to swim another day.
How Kevin preps for a tournament
Three favorite search baits
Best tournament finish and what you did that day when you were fishing.
Most challenging part of tournament fishing
Trying not to overthink which way you should run or how long you stay in one area when the bite slows down on you.
When tournaments don't go my way
Don’t dwell on what went wrong, when things don’t fall into place. Pull yourself together regroup and get ready for the next tournament.
Advice to give to an aspiring tournament angler:
Learn what you and try to spend as much time on the water improving your skills. Don’t expect to win every tournament you sign up for, especially if fishing from the back of the boat. Make a name for yourself at the local level on your home and nearby lakes, before you start trying to land sponsorships. At the end of the day give thanks to god and make sure you had a ton of fun while fishing. Every outing is going to teach you something different as long as you are willing to learn!
Some shared general bass fishing techniques for people just getting into the sport
Have fun and enjoy every moment you get to spend on the water. Ask questions if you want to know how to fish a certain bait.
