Delta Pest Control
What you should know about BJ:
I'm a happy go lucky person. I always like to have fun and laugh. People would say I am definitely a Gerald Swindle type person. Always cutting up.
How BJ started fishing
I have always enjoyed fishing. Started fishing with my dad at a young age which soon developed into a passion that led me to fish tournaments.
Aspirations or goals with fishing
I believe every tournament fisherman's true goal would be to make it to the Bassmasters Classic or the FLW Cup. But since those goals for most are unreachable I would say my goal is to always to my best and compete. Always be in the hunt for a win. My dad's health isn't too great so my goal for the near future would be to win a big tournament on stage so he can be there to cheer me on and see his only son be on top.
Favorite way to fish
My favorite way to fish is power fishing . Lots of moving baits. I just like to be on the move so I feel like I'm doing something. Searching out the fish until you find them then hunker down and fish
Most exciting fishing experience
All of my fishing experiences are exciting and fun
How BJ preps for a tournament
I try to go out the day or two before and try to locate some fish and a pattern. Most of the time by tournament day it has all changed but you have a general idea of what to do and where to go.
Three favorite search baits
Crankbait, spinnerbait and buzzbait
Best tournament finish and what you did that day when you were fishing.
My best finish was actually my first win in tournament fishing. It was my first year in tournament fishing. I just went out and fished hard that day. Actually not thinking about the win just thinking about fishing. Just had a fun day of fishing and ended up on top.
Most challenging part of tournament fishing
Fishing challenges would be to know where to locate fish, what to throw at them and the all famous question "should I stay or should I go". Especially in changing conditions. One of the most challenging things to me is seeing other not showing sportsmanship. One of the things I enjoy most about tournament fishing is the friendships you make along the way. Sportsman is a big thing in this and I think we should all display it win or loose.
When tournaments don't go my way
Never give up and keep trying. Fish until the last minute. If it doesn't go good for you just let it go and prepare for the next one. Use it as a learning experience
Advice to give to an aspiring tournament angler:
Just do it. If you never go out and try it you will never know how you will do in it. You have to just take that leap of faith and get out there and give it all you've got.
Some shared general bass fishing techniques for people just getting into the sport
Spend as much time on the water as possible, fish with as many other experienced anglers as possible to get hands on experience.
