What John does for a living:
What you should know about John:
I have a beautiful wife, Eugenia. Two wonderful sons and two grandsons and a granddaughter. I love fishing tournaments. I especially enjoy team events with my sons. I have been blessed to have fished a tournament with my oldest grandson. I hope to be able to fish a tournament with my other grandson and my granddaughter.
How John started fishing
My dad taught me to fish as a boy. I can't remember not fishing. I started fishing tournaments with the Military Bass Anglers Association while stationed at Shaw AFB in the early 90s. I have fished tournaments in Spain, Italy and several states in the US ranging from Idaho to Florida.
Aspirations or goals with fishing
To fish and win as many as I can for as long as I can. I love the competition and the challenges that fish, conditions and other competitors present.
Favorite way to fish
Flipping/pitching because I think that even though there may be fewer bites during a given day the quality is on average better.
Most exciting fishing experience
Cathing a 30+ lb sack with my son in a tournament. Anchored by 11+ lb big bass I caught flipping.
How John preps for a tournament
I pre-fish as often as possible and try to find an area or technique a little different than what the crowd is doing.
Three favorite search baits
U-vibe worm, swimbait and swim jig
Best tournament finish and what you did that day when you were fishing.
Most challenging part of tournament fishing
After having a good or bad practice, fishing the conditions not practice results on tournament day.
When tournaments don't go my way
Work hard. Try to analyze if there was something you could have tried differently. Forget about it.
Advice to give to an aspiring tournament angler:
Fish the current conditions not the past. Fish to your strengths.
