My Sponsors

My wife of 30 years is my primary sponsor.  She preps the boat, keeps me healthy, and provides me a worry free environment so that I may concentrate on fishing.

What Gary does for a living:

I am a retired Marine.  Now I volunteer with the local CrossFit affiliate to help others develop and maintain their health.

What you should know about Gary:

My other bad habits are surfing, CrossFit and golf.

How Gary started fishing

Father and Grandfather started me fishing at age 7.  Tournament fishing came later as I explored ways to become a better fisherman.

Aspirations or goals with fishing

Enjoy the camaraderie and competition at the local and regional level

Favorite way to fish

If I can find a way to catch them on a jig or a frog, I will.

Most exciting fishing experience

Actually not a bass fishing experience, but catching False Albacore while surf fishing in Eastern North Carolina.  Crazy powerful and fast those fish.

How Gary preps for a tournament

Map study, aerial study, pre-fishing, stay in shape, eat right, sleep.

Three favorite search baits

Crankbait

Swim Jig

Spinnerbait

Best tournament finish and what you did that day when you were fishing.

I have won many tournaments, but the most enjoyable by far are those that I have won on a big brown frog.

Most challenging part of tournament fishing

Weather, tide, wind tide

When tournaments don't go my way

Every day on the water is a good day.  I do not get too high or too low.  I am thankful for the ability to be able to fish and enjoy this great country.

Advice to give to an aspiring tournament angler:

Time on the water.  Get your butt up and get on the water.

Some shared general bass fishing techniques for people just getting into the sport

Bass only do two things, eat and make baby fish.  Follow the bait and pay attention to where they are in the spawning cycle and you will succeed.  Do not get wrapped around baits, get wrapped around finding fish.
