What you should know about Dewayne:

How Dewayne started fishing

Started fising at the age of 5. Fished first tournament when i was 17. Won firts tourney at age of 18.

I enjoy all types of fishing.

Aspirations or goals with fishing

I enjoy the competition of fishing tournaments. Not interested in fishing touranments as a pro. Just enjoy time spent on different lakes and the seasonal challenges of change and the movement of bass.

Favorite way to fish

I like a soft plastic jerkbait or floating worm. Its the excitment of the slow approach of a big bass as you see him ease up very suttle to take the bait.

Most exciting fishing experience

I have been fishing touranments for 30 years, every trip is exciting. I cannot disclose one great moment i love them all.

How Dewayne preps for a tournament

Weather is the most important aspect to me the 2 days prior to the touranment sometimes a week i start watching wind direction, moon phases, water levels, water temp, how many days of clouds and sun,and how much rain has fallen prior to the tourney all of these things contribute to the movement of bass and where your going to start.

Three favorite search baits

favorite baits spring tube, soft jerk bait, floating worm, swim jig

fall swim jig, topwater ,rattel trap jig

winter soft jerk bait, jig, bladed jig ,crank bait

Best tournament finish and what you did that day when you were fishing.

I have had many first place finishes along with placing in all locations through the tournaments. The best moment over the years was a hourly weighin tournament on lay lake there were 8 big fish hours to win and i won 6 of the hours. Fishing was fast and furious that day chatter bait fish, the number of fish caught was just amazing and most of the fish were in the 3 lb and up range.

Most challenging part of tournament fishing

trying to stay calm and relaxed

When tournaments don't go my way

i have no regrets for tournaments not won it has its ups and downs that comes with time on the water.

Advice to give to an aspiring tournament angler:

learn all aspects of a bass and how there patterns change with weather, this will be your greatest challenge to move with the fish and how they react . We can all catch fish when they are feeding but you have to learn how to catch them when they are not.

Some shared general bass fishing techniques for people just getting into the sport

my best advice would be to fish alot of different lakes learn to fish from depths of 40 feet to 4 inches. For beginners try and fish slow as new people start to fast alot of times. dont get stuck with one bait but starting out use that bait until you have gotten strong with it. Then move to a new bait. Every bait will catch fish. ? is when and where.

february fishing several days of warm weather  points and pockets close togeteher on the main creek channels. wt 50 to 60

march move further back to the arms off of the creeks wt 55 65

april move all the way back to pockets wt 60 to 70

may fish will be every where catch them anywhere 65 to 75

june fish will be locating for the summer moving back to main creek  wt 75 to 85
