Kentucky Lake ABA Couples
Kentucky Lake Bass Pro Shops Couple Series opened 2019 with a record number of boats. The fishing was tough and the conditions were rough most of the day, strong winds, some rain, thunder and occasional lightning. However, we had 17 teams brave those conditions and expect that number to rise over the season. Thank you to all that attended.
There were only 14 fish caught for the day. The total weight was 37.43 pounds an average of 2.67 pounds. We paid out four places for a total of $1275, plus $170 for the big bass pots. Not bad results for the conditions of the day.
Brandi and Scott Vanover took first place. They brought home 3 fish weighing 8.58 pounds. Scott said they caught several small fish inside the bays on spinnerbaits and rattletraps. He and Brandi moved to the main lake, fished points near channel swings and caught all three keepers on jigs, spinnerbaits, and speed worms. These included Men’s Big Bass of the day, a 4.09 pounder. Scott and Brandi earned $575 for their efforts. Scott took home an extra $85 for his big fish of the day, bringing their total winnings to $660.
Dee and Danny Baggett took second place. They also had three fish and came in only .36 pounds behind the Vanovers with a total weight of 8.22 pounds. Dee took Ladies’ Big Fish honors with a 4.18 pound lunker. The Baggetts took home a second place check of $350 and Ladies’ Big Fish check of $85 for a total of $435 on the day.
Shari and Jay Holsapple took third place with two fish weighing 5.62 pounds. Shari and Jay caught their fish on main lake rocky banks on Kentucky Lake. Jay says he lost a monster that would have moved them to first place, a likely fish story!! Shari and Jay took home $225 for their accomplishments.
Tammy and Troy Courtney took the fourth place money of $125 with one nice fish weighing 3.23 pounds.
The Lintons and Barclays got some Booyah spinnerbaits in the post weigh-in drawing.
We want to extend a very heartfelt welcome and thank you to four new teams that joined us this week, Jeff and Lorie Richey, Tom and Lorie Murley, Stephen and Tracy Whitehead, and David and Sharon Seaton. We hope you enjoyed the day and return for many more.
Our next tournament will be held at Paris Landing on April 28. I expect the bite to be on fire at this one. We will launch at 6:00 AM or safe light and weigh-in at 2:00 PM. Donna and I will be at the ramp for boat check and late registrations by 5:00 AM. You can preregister online and save $5.00 at https://www.americanbassanglers.com/ABACouples.php.
