Rikard Wins South Carolina Season Opener On Lake Keowee
ATHENS, Al. – Greg Rikard of Leesville, SC won the Bass Pro Shops Open Series event held on Lake Keowee 2/29/20. Running out of South Cove Park in Seneca SC, Rikard weighed in a five bass limit weighing 19.00 pounds even. His catch was anchored by a bass weighing 5.83 pounds which was the biggest bass weighed in by a boater. Riker took home a total of $1720.00 for his catch.
“My day started out slow,” said Riker. “I didn’t have much weight and so I made a move around mid-morning. The area I went to, the fish were biting. I caught them on a crankbait, jig and spinnerbait. I was catching them in 0-8 feet.”
Taking second for the boaters Phillip Anderson of Saluda, SC weighed in a five bass limit weighing 16.75 pounds. His catch was anchored by a bass weighing 5.80 pounds.
“I had a pretty good day,” said Anderson. “I caught around 12 keepers in very shallow water on a ¾ ounce spinnerbait.”
Taking third for the boaters Brad Benfield of Cornelia, GA weighed in a five bass limit weighing 15.33 pounds. His catch was anchored by a bass weighing 4.88 pounds.
“I caught my fish on a shakeyhead and a blade runner,” said Benfield. “The spots I caught were in the 40 foot range and the largemouth were in the 3-4 foot range.”
In fourth place for the boaters Cody Hoyle of Rutherfordton, NC weighed in five bass weighing 14.73 pounds and rounding out the top 5, Greg Glouse of Liberty, SC weighed in five bass weighing 14.13 pounds.
In the co-angler division James Akins of Cumming, GA weighed in a three bass limit weighing 8.20 pounds. His catch was anchored by a bass weighing 3.66 pounds which was the biggest bass weighed in by a co-angler. Akins took home $665.00 for his catch.
“I had a good boater today that put me around the fish. I caught the big one on a jerkbait and I lost one on a jerkbait. I also caught some on a jig and a worm,” said Akins.
In second place for the co-anglers Wesley Mullins of Guyton GA, weighed in three bass weighing 7.61 pounds.
“I caught three fish today,” said Mullins. “I caught 2 on a jig and one on a spinnerbait.”
Taking third for the co-anglers Ryan Smith of Sugar Hill, GA weighed in three bass weighing 7.48 pounds.
“I had two fish at 2:30 and my boater made a move to another location. I was able to fill my limit and cull out my two smallest fish. My fish today were caught on a shakeyhead,” said Smith
In fourth place for the co-anglers, Alan Bennett weighed in three bass weighing 6.44 pounds and rounding out the top 5, Jeffrey Rikard of Leesville, SC weighed in three bass weighing 5.21 pounds.

New Schedule and Directors for Kansas Division 58
Athens, AL January 22, 2020. Today American Bass Anglers announce new directors for American Fishing Tour Division 58 located in southeastern Kansas. Becky Minor and Mark Moody. Becky Minor has been running events in Kansas for over 20 years.
The division will center around Big Hill Lake which is one of the interesting lakes in Kansas. Located in Labette County about 5 miles east of Cherryvale, Kansas, Big Hill is known as one of the cleanest and clearest lakes in Kansas. It has a max depth of 60 and holds a good population of both Large and quality Smallmouth bass.
The first event of the season for Division 58 is
North GA Couples kicks off 2021 season with double header on Lake Lanier.
October 3 brought post frontal winds and bluebird skies, starting the day off with waning harvest moon. With some fall transition it made for some challenging fishing but beautiful weather to be on the lake. With 8 teams fishing there was only one limit brought to the scales but all others had at least one keeper to weigh, with exception of one team who had to leave lake early due to boat problems.
Bass Pro Shops Open Series Coming To Lake Okeechobee
Athens, AL - The south Florida division of the Bass Pro Shops Open Series will hold their first tournament of the season on Lake Okeechobee. On Saturday, January 23, 2021, the tournament will be out of Clewiston, FL, launching out of the framed Roland Martin Marina and Resort.
It will be interesting to see how much Okeechobee has changed since last January. On this same weekend last year, Scott Kirsch of Edgewater, FL, won the boater side of the event with a five-fish limit of 18 pounds. Mason Meder won the Co-Angler side of the event with a three-fish limit of 10.91 pounds.
Team Tour Championship Postponed
Out of an overabundance of caution The Team Tour Championship that was scheduled for 10/10-11/2020 on Wheeler Lake has be postponed. The National Weather Service is forecasting winds of 10-20 mph with gust up to 35mph for Saturday, and winds of 10-15 mph with gust up to 20 mph Sunday. The safety of our anglers is the number on concern and factor when making the tough decisions on postponing a tournament.
