Mark and Amy Shannon win on Logan Martin Lake
ATHENS, Al. –Mark and Amy Shannon won the Bass Pro Shops Couples Series, operated by American Bass Anglers, Central Alabama Division 1 tournament, held February 15, 2020, on Logan Martin Lake. Running out of Lakeside Landing in Pell City, AL, they caught 5 bass weighing 13.28 pounds. For the victory, they earned a check for $360.00. Mark won Man’s Big Fish with a 3.36-pounder.
In second for the 8 teams, Kerry and Heather Wilson caught five bass weighing 11.80 pounds. They pocketed a check for $240.00. Taking third place, the team of Bobby and Karen Holman caught 5 bass weighing 11.69 pounds. In fourth place, John and Pat Groff caught 5 bass weighing 11.09 pounds. Pat won the Woman’s Big Fish contest with a 3.30 pound kicker. Joseph and Dimple Clevinger rounded out the top five teams with 5 bass weighing 9.77 pounds. The top teams caught their fish on jigs and chatter baits.
All ABA American Couples Series events involve a team format with each team composed of one man and one woman. Contestants between 14 and 18 years old may participate with a parent’s written permission.
The next divisional tournament will be on March 14, 2020 at the Alabama River out of Swift Creek boat ramp. The top angling couples from across the nation earn the right to compete in the annual American Bass Anglers Couples Series National Championship tournament.

Danny and Virginia Christ win on Lake Mitchell
ATHENS, Al. – Danny and Virginia Christ won the American Couples Series, operated by American Bass Anglers, Central Alabama Division 1 tournament, held April 18, 2021, on Lake Mitchell. Running out of Higgins Ferry boat ramp out of Clanton, AL, they caught 5 bass weighing 15.73 pounds. For the victory, they earned a check for $788.00. Virginia won the Woman’s Big Fish with a 4.87-pound kicker. They caught their fish in shallow water on a worm.
Hawkins Wins $2600 on Harris Chain
ATHENS, Ala. –Calan Hawkins won the Bass Pro Shops Open Series Florida Central tournament, held May 1st on the Harris Chain of Lakes. Running out of Venetian Gardens – Ski Beach in Leesburg, FL the Fruitland Park, FL angler caught five bass weighing 24.56 pounds including a 7.61-pound kicker. For the Boater Division victory, Hawkins took home a check for $2600 for his win.
Team Tour Championship Postponed
Out of an overabundance of caution The Team Tour Championship that was scheduled for 10/10-11/2020 on Wheeler Lake has be postponed. The National Weather Service is forecasting winds of 10-20 mph with gust up to 35mph for Saturday, and winds of 10-15 mph with gust up to 20 mph Sunday. The safety of our anglers is the number on concern and factor when making the tough decisions on postponing a tournament. The new dates for the Team Tour Championship will be November 21-22 on Wheeler Lak
