NY Heads to 1000 islands
ATHENS, Ala. – Saturday, July 11, ABA and Bass Pro Shops Open Series will host the second tournament for the New Your division on 1000 islands out of French Creek Marina, 250 Wahl St Clayton NY 13624.
The last time the Bass Pro Shops Open Series was at 1,000 Islands was July 21, 2018. Jesse Spellicy of Gouverneur, NY won with 23.33-pounds with a 5.66 big bass. He took home a check for $5000 for the win. “I was drop shotting with a GaJo spirit shad, any of the natural colors were working, in the river in 25-35 feet of water,” Spellicy said.
In second, Christophe Ullrich of Picture Rocks, PA landed a five-bass tournament limit going 22.78-pounds with a 5.29-pound kicker. “I fished the river in the Canadian narrows between two islands. I was fishing current in 10-25 ft of water, I used a green pumpkin ned bait all day,” Ullrich said.
Mike Luka of East Stroudsburg, PA is leading the points race because of his win on Lake Champlain with 20.10 pounds.
Anglers will begin fishing at safe light. The weigh-in will begin at 2:30 p.m. On-site registration is from 4:00-6:30 PM along with a mandatory check-in for all participants at French Creek with the tournament briefing to be done on the water Saturday morning before take-off.

Doug Sims Wins ABA At Big Hill
With air temps in mid 40’s and water temps low to mid 50-s, nineteen anglers launched out of Mound Valley Ramp on Big Hill Lake April 3, 2021 at 7:30 a.m. There was a light breeze which would later change to 20 mph winds causing white caps on the main lake. Air temps rose to low 70’s.
Big Bass at Clark’s Hill for North GA Couples
Beautiful and warm early spring weather met the North GA Couples at Clark’s Hill as we launched from the Mistletoe State Park Ramp on March 13, 2021. Lots of healthy fish were caught and brought to the scale while we all enjoyed a good time. It was wonderful seeing some people who haven’t been able to fish with us in a while.
Brad Benfield Takes the Win on Lake Russell
ATHENS, Al. – Brad Benfield of Demorest GA, won the South Carolina Division of the American Bass Anglers Open Series held on Lake Russell on April 4th. Launching out of the Hwy 72 park in Elberton GA, Benfield weighed in a five bass limit weighing 14.46lbs. “I was fishing a wacky rig bait on throwing at different types of structure in the 15-foot depth,” said Benfield.
Team Tour Championship Postponed
Out of an overabundance of caution The Team Tour Championship that was scheduled for 10/10-11/2020 on Wheeler Lake has be postponed. The National Weather Service is forecasting winds of 10-20 mph with gust up to 35mph for Saturday, and winds of 10-15 mph with gust up to 20 mph Sunday. The safety of our anglers is the number on concern and factor when making the tough decisions on postponing a tournament.
