David Wright Claims Second Qualifying Victory
5/8/2021 – Boydton, VA. David Wright is setting the bar high for anglers in American Bass Angler’s American Fishing Tour. With just his first three events under his belt he has now collected two first place finishes and a second place. Obviously David will be an odds on favorite for Virginia Division 13 angler of the year and someone to keep an eye on come the American Fishing Tour national championship this October at Kerr Lake.
David claimed his second qualifying event victory today on a windy day where 30 mph winds kept most anglers away from their favorite fishing spots. David said he was concentrating on the first points coming out of coves that he knew were good spawning areas. The post spawn fish were holding on these points and he capitalized on that fact using crank baits and small plastics. His biggest fish of the day was a 5.87 pound fish that helped him amass a total stringer of 17.04 pounds for the win.
The Virginia Division will next be on the Chickahominy and James rivers launching from Chickahominy Riverfront Park on May 22.
All totaled, our anglers took home $2900 in winnings. These anglers earn valuable points toward the divisional angler of the year title. Each division's points champion will compete in the annual American Bass Anglers AFT Angler of The Year Final Round at the AFT Championship. The top 500 anglers from the various divisions will also earn the right to compete in the three-day ABA, AFT National Championship tournament.
The American Fishing Tour offers low-cost, close-to-home bass tournaments that are designed for the weekend angler. All anglers fish for both money and points. The points advance the angler to their divisional championship. The top 500 anglers in the US are invited to the American Fishing Tour National Championship on Kerr Lake in Virginia.
