Helton takes win on Lake Chickamauga
Athens, Ala. – Thomas F Helton won the 2021 bass Pro Shop Open Series East Tennessee Division Tournament, held July 10, 2021 on Lake Chickamauga. This was the final 1 day tournament for the season, we had 29 boaters and 16 co-anglers. Running out of Dayton Boat Dock an Grill, Dayton Tn. The AOY points leader Charleston Tn angler caught five bass weighing 20.26 pounds. Plus he also won the boater big fish pot with a 7.27 pound largemouth.
“I caught all my fish by fishing shallow around grass fishing a jig. With 45 minutes to go I only had 4 fish, I made one last stop and caught my 2 largest fish,” said Helton.
2nd place Boater Tim Smiley of White Pine Tn. had 5 fish for 19.18 pounds.
“I was fishing from 3’ to 9’ fishing 3 baits, I was fishing a worm, jig and topwater around grass and lay downs,” said Smiley.
3rd place Boater: Justin Freeman of Dayton Tn. had 5 fish for 16.12 pounds.
“I was fishing a jig in shallow grass beds on the lower end of the lake,” said Freeman.
4th place Boater: Ricky Murphy of Chickamauga Ga he had 5 fish for 14.74 pounds.
5th place Boater: Jack Dunaway of Kingston Tn he had 5 fish for 14.40 pounds.
In the Co-Angler Division Alex Perez Cortes of Hixson Tn, won with 3 fish for 11.25 pounds also had co- angler big fish 4.86 pounds.
“I caught my fish using a jig and swimbait, fishing shallow around grass,” said Cortes.
2nd place Co-Angler: Zachary Barnes of Chickamauga Ga had 3 fish for 9.75 pounds.
“I caught all my fish by fishing a jig fishing shallow rocks on the upper end of the lake,” said Barnes.
3rd place Co-Angler: Jody Moore of Hixson Ga had 3 fish for 8.72 pounds.
“I caught my fish by fishing a ¼” jig in about 3’ of water around grass,” said Moore.
4th place Co-Angler: Mark Pirkle of Cleveland Tn had 3 fish for 7.18 pounds.
5th place Co-Angler: Ryan Godsey of Chickamauga Ga had 3 fish for 6.76 pounds.
The next stop in the East Tennessee Open Series division 4 is October 16&17 2021 at Chickamauga going out of Dayton Boat Dock&Grill. This will be the 2-day regional championship for division 3&4. At the end of the season, the best anglers from across the nation advance the 2022 Ray Scott Championship to be held at Lake Eufaula in April, 2022.

Andrew Skinner Takes the win on the Chowan River
Thanks to all the anglers that came out and fished the ABA Division 17 tournament on the Chowan River this past weekend. It was a hot day on the water and tough fishing for a lot of angler due to the water still being high from the tropical storm that went through a couple days earlier.

Team Tour Championship Postponed
Out of an overabundance of caution The Team Tour Championship that was scheduled for 10/10-11/2020 on Wheeler Lake has be postponed. The National Weather Service is forecasting winds of 10-20 mph with gust up to 35mph for Saturday, and winds of 10-15 mph with gust up to 20 mph Sunday. The safety of our anglers is the number on concern and factor when making the tough decisions on postponing a tournament. The new dates for the Team Tour Championship will be November 21-22 on Wheeler Lak
