Hannah Wins In Rough Conditions on Ross Barnett
BRANDON, Miss. – Jason L. Hannah won the Boater Division during the American Bass Anglers Open Series, Presented by Caymas Boats, Mississippi Division 12 season opener, held February 19, 2023, on Ross Barnett Reservoir near Jackson.
Launching at Tommy’s Landing in Brandon, Miss., the anglers faced difficult conditions. Heavy recent rains and cold temperatures chilled and muddied the water. Most of the fish remain in their pre-spawn mode.
In the end, Hannah came out on top. The angler from Forest brought in a 5-bass tournament limit for 17.23 pounds. He anchored that bag with a 5.69-pound kicker. That gave him a 3.45-pound average.
In second among the boaters, Noel W. Allen, Jr. from the hosting down of Brandon also landed his 5-bass limit. He brought in 12.64 pounds with a 3.73-pound kicker. .
Taking the third spot for the boaters, Michael E. Cooper of Wesson found five good keepers for 11.68 pounds. .
Ryan M. Cummins from Kosciusko landed in fourth place with three keepers for 11.64 pounds. One of them weighed 7.03 pounds and took the tournament lunker title. .
Wrapping up the top five boaters, Kenneth W. Ryals of Hattiesburg put four keepers on the scale for 10.58 pounds. .
In the Co-Angler Division, Kris G. McCarter of Pheba landed a 3-bass division limit for 8.99 pounds. He capped that catch with a 4.32-pound large mouth for nearly a 3-pound average.
Kendall Amos from Greenville only found one keeper, but made it count. His 4.70-pound bass gave him second place among the co-anglers and division big bass honors.
In third for the co-anglers, Bobby L. McKee of Pheba also found one keeper for 4.41 pounds.
Rounding out the top five co-anglers, Phillip D. Brumfield from Brookhaven caught two bass going 4.18 pounds for fourth place. In fifth, Kevin M. Daniels from the host town of Brandon landed one keeper at 4.02 pounds.
The division returns to Ross Barnett Reservoir and Tommy’s Landing on April 22, 2023.
