Bower Wins on Cayuga
Union Springs, NY - Mark Bower, hailing from Kunkletown, PA, achieved an impressive victory in the recent Cayuga Lake fishing competition at Frontenac Park, showcasing his skill with a remarkable catch weighing 24.77 lbs.
Bower strategically employed a variety of techniques during his mid-lake expedition from Union Springs to Ithaca. Employing a flogger and employing bed fishing methods, he opted for a drop shot approach in waters ranging from 3 to 15 feet, aiming to provoke the fish. Using predominantly white-colored bait along with some natural shades, Bower's expertise earned him a well-deserved prize of $5,200.
Securing the second position among the boaters was Mike Morrin from Waterloo, NY, with an impressive 23.38 lbs catch, including a noteworthy 5.89 lbs kicker fish. Morrin skillfully utilized bed fishing techniques in the middle of the lake, employing brightly colored bait such as pink, white, and chartreuse.
Bradley Krauss from Berkshire, NY, clinched the third spot with a bag weighing 22.82 lbs. Krauss employed a drop shot technique using white flatworms, fishing between 10 and 20 feet in the southern region of the lake, specifically targeting the fish on their beds.
Gordon Bocash from Woodstock, CT, secured the fourth position with a catch weighing 22.54 lbs, which included a 5.09 lbs kicker fish.
Completing the top five positions in the Boater division was Chris Sperling from Cato, NY, with an impressive catch weighing 22.13 lbs.
On the Boater side, Thomas Gilroy emerged triumphant with the biggest bass, weighing an impressive 6.22 lbs.
In the Co-Angler Division, Aiden Levis from Seneca Falls, NY, claimed the first position with a three-fish catch weighing 12.33 lbs. Employing green pumpkin bait, Levis employed a patient and slow technique, using the Senko 5-inch bait. Sticking to shallow waters of about 6 feet in the northern region, Levis's exceptional performance earned him a prize of $950.
Broden Herron from Seneca Falls, NY, secured the second position among the co-anglers with a catch weighing 12.08 lbs. Herron followed a similar approach, utilizing green pumpkin bait and adopting a slow and shallow technique with a senko.
Andrew Pruitt from Utica, NY, finished in third place among the co-anglers, employing a chatter bait and a senko in green pumpkin color. Fishing in the northern region at a depth of 8 feet, Pruitt's three fish weighed a total of 10.91 lbs.
John R. Ciavaglia from Pittsford, NY, claimed the fourth position in the Co-Angler Division with a catch weighing 10.74 lbs. Matthew Belmore of Indian Lake, NY, rounded out the top five co-anglers with a catch weighing 10.69 lbs.
Broden Herron also secured the Big Bass title among the co-anglers, reeling in an impressive fish weighing 4.74 lbs.
The upcoming tournament for the ABA NY Division is scheduled to take place at 1000 Islands, commencing from French Creek Marina on July 15, 2023.
