Eric Johnson Wins on Wequaquet

April 26, 2025 – Lake Wequaquet, Barnstable, MA – Battling torrential rain and high winds, Eric Johnson emerged victorious at the American Fishing Tour (AFT) Division 5 tournament held Saturday on Lake Wequaquet. Despite harsh conditions, with temperatures between 57-62 degrees and winds blowing 22-25 mph, the tournament drew a strong field of dedicated anglers competing for cash prizes and critical points toward divisional and national standings.

Johnson secured first place with an outstanding five-bass limit weighing 23.79 pounds. As water temperatures warmed, bass moved into shallow cover, and Johnson capitalized by flipping wood, keying in on fish holding tight to structure. His impressive performance earned him the first-place prize of $425. He also captured Big Bass honors with a 7.73-pound largemouth, adding an additional $260, bringing his total winnings to $685.

Sheron K. Brown, known to many as “The Lunkerman,” claimed second place with a five-bass limit totaling 19.61 pounds, anchored by a 6.62-pound giant that would have claimed Big Bass honors on many other days. Brown took home $225 for his strong showing.

In third place, Corey Gillis weighed a five-fish limit totaling 16.61 pounds.

Daniel Gonsalves followed closely with a solid five-bass bag of 14.13 pounds.

Nick Labombard rounded out the top five, weighing in a five-fish limit at 13.03 pounds.

Severe weather forced six late cancellations from anglers who had travel and work commitments, impacting the overall payout. While unfortunate, those who endured the brutal conditions made the best of a challenging tournament day.

The next AFT Division 5 tournament is set for May 3, 2025, on Mashpee-Wakeby Lakes in Mashpee, Massachusetts. Launch will take place from the state ramp.
