Barnstable, Massachusetts \u2013 October 11, 2025<\/em>. Jim Coleman, a longtime member of American Bass Anglers, claimed the top spot at the Division 5 American Fishing Tour \u201cEarly Bird\u201d event held on Lake Wequaquet in Barnstable, Massachusetts. Coleman brought an impressive five-fish limit to the scales, weighing 13.40 pounds, earning both first place and Big Bass honors with a 3.79-pound largemouth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coleman credited his success to targeting baitfish and drop-offs in 10\u201314 feet of water, using a dropshot rig of his own design. His strategic approach and consistency throughout the day earned him a solid victory, along with cash prizes and a pair of Division 5 champion plaques.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Finishing in second place was Daniel Gonsalves, who brought in a five-fish limit totaling 11.25 pounds. Gonsalves found his fish in 10\u201316 feet of water along grass lines on the main lake, primarily using jigs and small swimbaits. A strong competitor in every event, Gonsalves continues to prove himself as one of the most consistent anglers in the division.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Daniel Kenney rounded out the top three with a five-fish limit weighing 10.97 pounds, securing another solid finish for the field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lake Wequaquet, one of Cape Cod\u2019s premier fisheries, provided excellent conditions for the event. Known for its clear water and diverse structure, the lake continues to challenge and reward anglers with multiple techniques producing quality fish across the system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seventeen-year-old Jake Stukowski joined American Bass Anglers as a new member and competed in his first event as a co-angler. Jake showed great interest in the sport and is looking forward to gaining more experience as he continues to fish future ABA tournaments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anglers from across the region competed for cash prizes and valuable points toward divisional and national standings. This event marked an official \u201cEarly Bird\u201d qualifier for the 2026 season, setting the stage for another exciting year of competition in Division 5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The next AFT Division 5 tournament is scheduled for March 21, 2026, on Brimfield Reservoir in Sturbridge, Massachusetts. Tournament directors Dan and Jim anticipate a strong turnout and full fields as the 2026 trail gets underway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
