Jason Cheek – AFT D72 Two-Day Championship on Sinclair and Oconee

June 7–8, 2025 – Lake Sinclair & Lake Oconee, GA – Jason Cheek emerged victorious at the American Fishing Tour Division 72 Two-Day Championship, held across Lakes Sinclair and Oconee. Cheek led the field on Day One with an impressive five-bass limit weighing 20.68 pounds on Lake Sinclair. He followed up with 10.58 pounds on Day Two at Lake Oconee, bringing his two-day total to 31.26 pounds and securing the first-place trophy and a $1,592 payday.

Brian Garner also turned in a strong performance, weighing in 18.27 pounds on Day One—including a 5.62-pound largemouth—to finish the day in second. He maintained his position on Day Two, closing out with a total weight of 30.40 pounds and earning the second-place trophy and $1,026 in winnings.

The event featured notable big bass catches as well. Lance Collins landed a 5.66-pound largemouth on Day One to win the Big Bass award and $410.

On Day Two, Jerry Jones claimed Big Bass honors with a 6.70-pound catch, also earning $410.

In recognition of his outstanding support throughout the season, Grant Kelly received a custom wooden flag from Captain Kidd’s Designs as a Special Citizenship Award.

A total of 41 anglers competed for top honors, with payouts totaling $4,016 across the top six places. The final top ten results were as follows:

The Varsity Food Truck was on-site to serve anglers during weigh-in festivities at Lake Oconee. Several year-end awards were presented, including:

  • $100 to Jerry Jones for perfect attendance across all D72 events
  • $100 to Darren Taylor for the season’s Big Bass
  • $250 Angler of the Year, awarded jointly to Grant Kelly and David Lowery after a season-ending tie

Prize drawings added to the celebration:

  • Matt Henry won a $50 Sugar Creek Marina gift card
  • Joe Toth and Michael Sanford each won $50 cash
  • Sam Dyal, Brad Stalnaker, and Larry Cason won Sugar Creek Marina gift cards (one $75 and two $50 cards)
  • Travis Clay received a $200 Kissel Krafts Custom Rods gift certificate
  • Jason Cheek took home a $300 custom wooden flag from Captain Kidd’s Designs
