Brett Mathis Wins on Blackshear

Brett Mathis of Warwick, Georgia, won the American Fishing Tour Division 74 tournament held at Lake Blackshear on February 24, 2024. The event, a segment of the American Fishing Tour, drew skilled anglers from the region, competing for both monetary rewards and crucial divisional and national points.

Mathis claimed the top spot on the leaderboard with a total catch weighing 14.33 pounds, which included an outstanding 4.91-pound bass. His performance secured him the first-place position along with a cash prize of $451. Despite encountering challenging conditions marked by muddy waters and strong winds, Mathis adeptly reached his catch limit before the official weigh-in.

Securing second place was Derrick Burnam from Byromville, Georgia, with a total weight of 13.24 pounds, featuring a noteworthy 4.53-pound catch, earning him a $254 cash prize.

Jimmy Troxell of Leesburg, Georgia, claimed third place with a total catch of 12.77 pounds, for which he was awarded $79.

In fourth place, Harry Cooper from Unadilla, Georgia, had a three-fish catch weighing 12.58 pounds, including a notable 5.53-pounder that earned him the Big Fish honors and a cash prize of $160.

The upcoming competition in this division is scheduled for March 9/10, 2024, at Lake Blackshear, with the Gum Creek Ramp in Veterans State Park, Cordele, Georgia, designated as the launch site. These anglers earn valuable points toward the divisional angler of the year title. The points champion from each division will compete in the annual American Bass Anglers AFT Angler of The Year Final Round at the AFT Championship.
