ATHENS, Ala. – The nation’s top husband-and-wife, family, and partner fishing teams will travel to the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains this October as the 2026 Couples Series National Championship comes to beautiful Lake Keowee in Seneca, South Carolina, October 18–23, 2026.
Hosted by Visit Oconee, the championship will welcome the highest-ranked qualifying teams from across the United States for a week of competition, fellowship, and outdoor recreation on one of the Southeast’s most scenic bass fisheries. Teams will arrive beginning Sunday, October 18, for official practice before competing on Thursday and Friday, October 22–23, for national titles, awards, and championship recognition. The official registration, pairing meeting, and welcome gathering will be held on Wednesday evening, October 21.
The Couples Series National Championship has become one of the most unique events in competitive bass fishing, bringing together anglers who not only share a passion for fishing but also share life together. Unlike traditional tournaments, the Couples Series celebrates teamwork, family values, sportsmanship, and the outdoor lifestyle that has long been a foundation of recreational fishing across America.
“Lake Keowee provides an incredible setting for our national championship,” said Morris Sheehan. “From its clear water and outstanding bass fishery to the hospitality of Oconee County and Visit Oconee, this destination offers everything needed to create a memorable championship experience for our anglers and their families.”
Teams may begin registration on AmericanBassAnglers.com on Monday, July 13, 2026, at 8 a.m. Central time. Registration, schedule of events, and rules will all be posted on the website soon.
A Championship Destination
Nestled in the northwestern corner of South Carolina, Lake Keowee is widely recognized as one of the Southeast’s premier bass fishing destinations. Covering approximately 18,500 acres with more than 300 miles of shoreline, the lake is known for its exceptionally clear water, scenic mountain views, and healthy populations of largemouth and spotted bass.
Anglers competing in the championship will encounter a variety of seasonal fishing patterns, ranging from shallow structure and docks to deeper offshore presentations. October traditionally offers excellent fishing conditions as bass begin feeding aggressively ahead of winter, creating exciting opportunities for championship-caliber catches.
Beyond the water, competitors and their guests will experience the natural beauty and hospitality that have made Oconee County a growing outdoor recreation destination. Visitors can enjoy nearby waterfalls, mountain vistas, hiking trails, local restaurants, shopping, and attractions throughout Seneca, Walhalla, Westminster, and the surrounding communities.
Economic Impact for Oconee County
The championship is expected to generate economic activity throughout the region as teams arrive days in advance to practice and remain through the tournament’s conclusion. Competitors and their families will utilize local hotels, campgrounds, restaurants, fuel stations, retail businesses, and recreational attractions throughout championship week.
Visit Oconee’s partnership in hosting the event reflects the county’s commitment to outdoor tourism and its reputation as one of South Carolina’s leading destinations for fishing and outdoor recreation.
