Giddens Wins Professional League 2 Day on Lake Martin

ATHENS, Ala- Marty Giddens won the 2024 American Bass Anglers Professional League, Presented by Caymas Boats, Alabama South Division 2 tournament, held September 7TH & 8TH, 2024 on Lake Martin.

Running out of Wind Creek State Park in Alexander City, AL, the Eclectic, AL angler caught a 2-day total of 10 bass weighing 24.61 pounds, including a 3.95-pound kicker largemouth. For the Boater Division victory, Giddens took home a check for $2450 for his win and an additional $280 for the big bass award.

“I caught all the good ones on a shaky head, believe it or not. I weighed one fish each day on top water, but they were like 2 pounders. I caught a four-pounder and a three-pounder today on the shaky head about 3 feet deep. I caught the big bass on a seawall and the big spotted bass same thing just on the bank by a seawall. You couldn’t get them bite everything you know, if you throw that up there and just ease it along they pick it up sometimes and just take it. I ran all the way to the lower end on day one, and today, I ran about halfway down. “Giddens said.

In second place was Chris Jackson of Dora, AL, who landed a 2-day 10-bass limit weighing 21.02 pounds. He earned $1200 for his catch.

“Yesterday, I actually caught my fish on top water and a spinnerbait early; then I made a runway upriver. All the way to the shoals and that’s where I caught my largemouth that I had yesterday. I knew if I had 10 ½ to 11 lbs, that was pretty good so I just started basically scouting locations for day 2. I found some fish on brush piles and caught some fish doing that. On day 2, that’s all I ran was brush piles in 18 to 35 feet of water.” Jackson said.

Douglas “Todd” Beaver of Richland, GA took the third spot. He landed a 2-day 10-bass limit going 20.43 pounds. He earned $900 for the effort.

“On day one, I caught everything running brush piles anywhere from 18 to 25 feet deep. On day two, I changed it up, started out with a swim jig just running down the bank and caught 3 really nice ones then after that, I just ran brush the rest of the day and ended up catching and culling 3 fish on a one brush pile in 26 feet of water and gave me what I had. All in all it was a good event. “ Beaver said.

Finishing in fourth place, Michael Smith of Andalusia, AL landed a 2-day 10-bass limit that weighed 20.33 pounds. Kevin Revay of Ashford, AL finished in fifth with a 2-day 10-bass limit that weighed 18.43 pounds.

At the end of the season, the best anglers from across the nation advance to the 2024 Ray Scott Championship, to be held at Lake Eufaula in April 2025.

In addition, anglers may qualify for bonus money offered by tournament sponsors such as Caymas Boats’ Caymas Cash, the T-H Marine Atlas Awards program, and Power Pole. See each manufacturer’s website for details, rules, and qualifications, as well as more information on their contingency programs.
