ABA Introduces Three New Team Series Divisions

As the 2025 season approaches, American Bass Anglers (ABA) is excited to announce the addition of three experienced directors to lead new Team Series divisions—Dr. Lee H. DeBoer for Texas East Division 16, Tony Powell for Tennessee Northeast Division 17, and Scott Marshall for Tennessee Central Division 18.

Dr. Lee H. DeBoer – Director, Texas East Division 16 (See Schedule)

Based out of Pittsburg, Texas, Dr. Lee H. DeBoer brings over 60 years of fishing experience to the Texas East Division. His expertise spans across some of the most renowned fishing waters in the U.S., including New York’s 1000 Islands, Florida’s Lake Okeechobee, and Michigan’s Martiny Lakes. Known for his mastery of the Carolina Rig, Wacky Rig, and Drop Shot techniques, Dr. DeBoer is a passionate angler whose love for the sport began at a young age.

“My father taught me the art of patience and precision in fishing, and it has become a lifelong passion,” DeBoer said. “I’m always hunting for that elusive double-digit largemouth bass.”

When he’s not fishing, Dr. DeBoer enjoys spending time with his grandchildren, passing on his fishing knowledge to the next generation, as well as enjoying action movies and bowling.

Dr. DeBoer looks forward to welcoming anglers to Texas East Division 16 for what promises to be an exciting season. The division’s six-event schedule kicks off on January 18, 2025, at Lake O’ the Pines and concludes with the two-day divisional championship on June 21-22 at Bob Sandlin.

Tony Powell – Director, Tennessee Northeast Division 17 (See Schedule)

With over 53 years of experience fishing the waters of East Tennessee, Tony Powell is set to lead Tennessee Northeast Division 17. A retired U.S. Army veteran, Powell has directed smaller tournament trails in the region and is eager to bring his expertise to the ABA’s new team series.

“I’m excited about the potential this series has, and we’re looking forward to growing our numbers and creating one of the best trails in the region,” Powell said. “This inaugural season will be competitive and thrilling for all who participate.”

Powell, who resides in Tennessee with his wife Joy, is eager to see the local fishing community come together for the division’s opening event on February 15, 2025, at Watts Bar Lake. The season will conclude with the two-day divisional championship at Douglas Lake on October 25-26, 2025.

Scott Marshall – Director, Tennessee Central Division 18 (Schedule Coming Soon)

Scott Marshall, who is now retired, brings over 45 years of fishing experience to Tennessee Central Division 18. A lifelong resident of the region, Scott grew up fishing on Cordell Hull Lake and now resides in Lebanon, Tennessee, between Percy Priest and Old Hickory Lakes. His passion for fishing has taken him to several of the area’s renowned lakes, including Center Hill, Dale Hollow, and Tim’s Ford.

“I’ve been part of this community my entire life and look forward to getting more involved within the fishing scene,” Marshall said. “I’m excited about the opportunity to bring this division together and build a strong foundation for our anglers.”

Scott is currently working on the schedule for Tennessee Central Division 18, which will be posted as soon as it is available.

The ABA Team Series is designed to support grassroots anglers with a low entry fee of $150, offering a strong 80% payout at the ramp, and holding events close to home. With six events or more per division, including a two-day championship, the series culminates with a national championship the following spring.
