Taylor and Murdy Claim Season-Opening Victory at Lake Milton

April 19, 2025 | Lake Milton, Ohio – David Taylor and Ed Murdy kicked off the 2025 season in commanding fashion by winning the opening event of the American Bass Anglers Team Series Division 14 – Northeast Ohio, held on Lake Milton. Despite challenging weather conditions and the Easter holiday weekend, the duo topped a competitive field to take home the title.

Taylor and Murdy weighed in a five-fish limit totaling 11.71 pounds, anchored by the tournament’s Big Bass at 3.87 pounds. Their strategic approach included targeting baitfish and adjusting tactics throughout the day as they navigated shifting winds and passing storm cells. Their first-place finish earned them $480 in cash, a $100 gift card from Big Bear Fishing Rods, custom first-place plaques, and a $50 Big Bass bonus, which included an additional Big Bear gift card and a custom Big Bass plaque.

Rich Glavac and Mike Gallagher secured second place with 10.62 pounds, highlighted by a 3.37-pound largemouth, the largest of that species for the day. For their performance, the team collected $380 in cash and a $50 Big Bear gift card.

Timothy Wyckoff and Jake Rossi narrowly missed second place, finishing third with 10.61 pounds. Although just outside the payout line, they received a prize pack courtesy of Spearpoint Performance Fishing Hooks, a generous sponsor of the division. Leroy and Ian Troyer took fourth with 8.58 pounds, also earning a $50 Big Bear gift card.

Thanks to the support of Division 14’s sponsors, the event awarded prizes and payouts valued at 110% of registration fees. Notably, 100% of the fish were released alive, with 90% identified as smallmouth bass—a strong indicator of the fishery’s health. Anglers faced overcast skies, windswept conditions, and intermittent thunderstorm activity, with water temperatures hovering around 56 degrees.

The next stop for ABA Team Series Division 14 – Northeast Ohio is scheduled for Saturday, May 10th, on Portage Lakes. For full results and updates on upcoming events, visit americanbassanglers.com.
