Caballero Wins Professional League on Lake Toho

ATHENS, Ala. –Juan Caballero won the 2024 American Bass Anglers Professional League, Presented by Caymas Boats, Florida Central Division 6 tournament, held March 2nd, 2024 on Lake Toho.

Running out of Kissimmee Lakefront Park in Kissimmee, FL the Saint Cloud, FL angler caught five bass weighing 20.43pounds. For the Boater Division victory, Caballero took home a check for $5200 for his win.

“My game plan was to head to Cypress but with a high boat draw number I stayed in Toho and fished a waypoint until the lock thinned out. I caught a 6-pounder on the third cast and a couple 2-pounders. I had 19 pounds by 9:30AM. I was using topwater, wacky worm, and chatterbait. “Caballero said.

Second place, Raymond Trudeau also of Saint Cloud, FL landed a 5-bass limit weighing 20.16 pounds. He earned $2800 for the effort.

“I caught a big fish on topwater in the morning then I struggled for a while until later in the day. There were a few small bedding fish that I found in 5ft-6ft of water. I threw a jerkbait and finally got my limit. I was able to catch a 5 pounder late in the day. Then I ran back north and was able to cull up twice.” Trudeau said.

Dan Monohan of Melbourne, FL took the third spot. He landed a 5-bass limit going 19.82 pounds. He earned $2000 for his finish.

“I lost two big fish, probably each 6 pounders that would’ve got me the win today. Like what happened with Juan, I was running down the lake and hit a wall of fog and it was too dangerous to run, so I pulled off to a waypoint that I had found a few weeks ago. I caught a few little fish until 8:30AM. Then there was a pack of fish come up busting the top. That’s when I threw a topwater bait and went from 10 pounds to 18 pounds quickly. Then I was culling up until noon.” Monohan said.

The big bass award went to John Myers of Tampa, FL for a 8.27-pound lunker. Myers earned $890 for that fish. He also finished 10th in the event and received a $525 check for that place.

“I caught that big bass flipping a Gambler Fat Ace down south around noon. “Myers said.

Finishing fourth, Levi Brown of Plant City, FL landed bass weighing 19.80 pounds. Bryan Moore of Leesburg, FL rounded out the top five landed a 5-bass limit weighing 19.28 pounds.

At the end of the season, the best anglers from across the nation advance the 2024 Ray Scott Championship to be held at Lake Eufaula in April, 2025.
