Barnes Wins South Carolina Two Day On Lake Hartwell

ATHENS, Ala. – Justin Barnes took top honors in the 2024 American Bass Anglers Professional League, Presented by Caymas Boats, South Carolina Divisional Championship held on Lake Hartwell April 20-21-24.

Barnes, from Ellaville, Georgia, put together a day one limit of 15.55 lbs. and a day two limit of 19.02 lbs. for a two-day total of 34.57 lbs. Barnes took home the top prize of $2900.00 for his win.

I didn’t catch as many fish on day one with the sunny conditions, but today, with the rain all day, I found some good fish and smoked them. I probably caught 30 fish today, said Barnes. I caught all of my fish on a top-water bait and a big worm.

Taking second place, Bryan Watkins of Belton, South Carolina, put together a day one weight of 13.31 lbs. and a day two weight of 18.45 lbs. giving him a two-day total of 31.76 lbs. Watkins took home $1300.00 for his catch.

I caught all of my fish for two days, fishing shallow herring spawning areas. I probably caught two limits a day, all on a jerkbait and top water baits said Watkins.

Third place went to Justin Tingen from Moore, South Carolina, who weighed 13.96 lbs on day one and 16.97 lbs on day two. His day one catch was anchored by a bass weighing 5.01 lbs. Tingen took home a check for $1000.00.

I didn’t start off too well on day one by losing a few key fish on a spook said Tingen. Day two started off better for me. I had a couple of 3-pounders in about an hour, and that settled me down a bit. My best fish today, a four-pounder, came on a big glide bait over shallow cover.

Finishing fourth, Joseph Marks of Ducan, South Carolina, weighed in a two-day total of 28.20 lbs., earning him $850.00. Rounding out the top five, Joe Anders of Easley, South Carolina, weighed in a two-day total of 27.89 lbs., earning him $450.00.

Scott Browning of Franklin, North Carolina, won tournament big bass honors for a 5.17-lb bass caught on day two. Browning collected a total of $700.00.
