Matthew Blackwell Wins on Blackshear

On March 10, 2024, at Lake Blackshear in Cordele, Georgia, Matthew Blackwell from Warner Robins, Georgia, secured first place in the American Fishing Tour Division 74 competition. This event drew top anglers from the region, all vying for cash rewards and valuable points towards divisional and national standings.

Despite challenging conditions marked by high winds and muddy, low water levels, Blackwell managed to catch four fish, culminating in a total weight of 10.00 pounds. His catch included a notable 4.14-pound bass, contributing to his victory and earning him a cash prize of $288.

Dwayne Smith from Americus, Georgia, claimed the second position with a total catch weight of 9.40 pounds. In third place was Johnny Smith from Albany, Georgia, who caught a 2.45-pound fish, winning the Big Fish honors and a $70 cash prize. George Haynie from Cordele, Georgia, rounded out the top four with a catch of 2.11 pounds.

The adverse weather and water conditions posed significant challenges for the competitors. However, with the spawning season approaching, conditions are expected to improve for future events.
