John Sutherland Takes the Win at Lake Mitchell

Clanton, Alabama – October 19, 2024 – John Sutherland of Calera, Alabama, secured a hard-fought victory in the American Fishing Tour’s Division 24 tournament, held at Higgins Ferry Park on Lake Mitchell. Competing against a strong field of local anglers, Sutherland captured the top spot with a total weight of 13.77 pounds, including an impressive 4.43-pound bass, the biggest of the tournament. His outstanding performance earned him a $666 cash prize, along with an additional $145 for the tournament’s Big Bass.

Runner-up Hawk Schell of Prattville, Alabama, came in a close second with a total weight of 13.74 pounds, including a 3.37-pound bass, earning him $414. In third place, Jonathan White of Bessemer, Alabama, reeled in 12.63 pounds of fish, taking home $147.

Other top performers included Michael Pate, Kenny Turner, and Keith Adcox, who rounded out the top six, showcasing the competitive nature of the event.

The next event in Division 24 is scheduled for November 9, 2024, at Lake Jordan, with the State Park Ramp in Prattville serving as the launch site. Anglers will have another opportunity to compete for divisional points and cash prizes. These tournaments are crucial for anglers as they accumulate points toward the coveted Divisional Angler of the Year title. Points champions from each division will compete in the American Bass Anglers AFT Angler of the Year Final Round, held at the AFT Championship. Additionally, the top 500 anglers from all divisions will qualify for the three-day ABA AFT National Championship, taking place next October on Lake Eufaula.
