Gore Wins Divisional Professional League on Lay Lake

ATHENS, Ala- Wesley Gore won the 2025 American Bass Anglers Professional League, Presented by Caymas Boats, Alabama South Division 2 tournament, held April 13TH, 2025 on Lay Lake.

Running out of Beeswax Creek Ramp in Columbiana, AL the Clanton, AL angler caught five bass weighing 19.72 pounds. For the Pro Division victory, Gore took home a check for $1800 for his win.

“I was fishing mid-lake catching them all on current seams with a chatterbait and a jerk bait. Then I swam up one later in the day. I just targeted current seams, like hard spots stuff like that out in the river where the current was rolling. I caught a lot of fish today, probably around 50 and culled a lot of 3 1/2 pounders. “Gore said.

Second place for the Pros, Jason Nixon of Wetumpka, AL landed a 5-bass limit weighing 18.75 pounds including a 4.44 big bass. He earned $1000 for his catch and an additional $170 for the big bass award.

“I also was fishing mid-lake, but I was swimming a jig and flipping the grass. I caught everything that bit. “Nixon said.

Kenny Turner of Billingsley, AL took the third spot for the Pros. He landed a 5-bass limit going 15.62 pounds. He earned $800 for the effort.

“I caught all my fish on a crankbait down river. I just caught a bunch of fish; they were eating today! “Turner said.

Finishing fourth, Christian Rich of Eufaula, AL landed 5-bass weighing 14.81 pounds. Larry Franks of Wilsonville, AL rounded out the top five Pros landed a 5-bass limit weighing 14.48 pounds.

At the end of the season, the best anglers from across the nation advance the 2025 Ray Scott Championship to be held in April, 2026.
