Campbell Wins On Lake Hartwell

In the 2024 American Bass Anglers Professional League, presented by Caymas Boats, South Carolina Division event at Lake Hartwell on March 23, 2024, Tyler G. Campbell of Martin, Georgia, achieved his first professional league victory. Despite challenging weather conditions, including rain on Friday and strong winds on Saturday, Campbell successfully caught a five-bass limit weighing 18.86 pounds, securing a $3,200.00 top prize.

Campbell noted his strategy involved early success with a shakeyhead, capturing approximately 17 pounds of bass by 9:00 AM. He made crucial upgrades to his catch around 10:00 AM using a different worm before the winds intensified. A later adjustment to a spinnerbait in slightly murkier waters allowed him to complete his winning total.

I’ve been waiting awhile to finally win one of these said Campbell. I caught them quick, fast and in a hurry this morning. I had around 17 lbs. by 9:00 on a shakey head. Around 10:00, I was able to make two key upgrades before the winds got up on a different worm. After the winds got up it was tough on me. I made an adjustment at about 2:00 and was able to catch my final upgrade on a spinnerbait in a little more stained water.

Joseph Marks of Duncan, South Carolina, claimed second place with a five-bass limit totaling 17.81 pounds, which included a notable 4.92-pound bass. Marks, who earned $1,400.00, found early success targeting herring points with a spinnerbait and a senko, maintaining productivity throughout the day without significant disruption from the wind.

I was running herring points early and I had a limit by 8:00 on a spinnerbait and a senko. I was able to catch fish all day in the area I was fishing. When asked about the wind Marks said the wind wasn’t a factor where he was fishing and didn’t realize it was so windy until he was coming in around 3:00.

Elijah Benson of Dahlonega, Georgia, took third place with a five-bass limit weighing 17.32 pounds, earning $1,100.00. Benson’s strategy focused on fishing around rocks and docks on the southern end of Lake Hartwell, using a shakeyhead in depths of 15-20 feet.

I was fishing on the South end of the lake around rocks and docks with a shakeyhead said Benson. I was in the 15-20 foot depth and was able to catch a lot of fish.

Bradley Day of Anderson, South Carolina, finished in fourth place with a total weight of 16.99 pounds, receiving $950.00. Parker Guy of Ocilla, Georgia, rounded out the top five with a catch weighing 16.49 pounds, earning $600.00.

The event’s Big Bass Award went to Vernon Reynolds of Johnston, South Carolina, for a bass weighing 5.01 pounds, securing him an additional $350.00.
