Haynie Wins on Lake Blackshear

May 15, Cordele, GA. George Haynie of Cordele, GA. won the American Fishing Tour Division 74 District Championship on Lake Blackshear April 29 and 30, 2023.  Running out of the Mega ramp near Cordele, GA. Haynie brought back a five fish on day one that locked in the scales at 7.27 pounds.  On day two he caught another limit adding 13.90 pounds with a 5.34-pound kicker for a two-day total of 21.17 pounds. He stated that the day two bite was better in the morning. For the win, he took home a check for $ 752 plus an additional $ 110 for day two big bass.

Coming in second was Jason Law from Leesburg Ga with a two-day total of 21.13 pounds.  For his efforts Jimmy took home $326. Jason stated that fishing was better on day one for him, boat traffic made it very tough to stay focused.

Sam Moody of Albany, GA who finished third, led day one with 12.40 pounds. Sam added another 6.20 pounds on day two for of 18.60 pounds.

Jimmy Troxell of Leesburg, GA took fourth with seven fish and a total two-day weight of 18.63 pounds. Jimmy said he caught his fish on plastics and crankbaits.

Dwayne Smith of Americus, GA stated out the day tied for Angler of the year points finished in fifth with a total weight of 16.50 pounds. Dwayne finished second in AOY race by tiebreaker of most pounds caught during the year.

Johnny Smith of Albany, GA, who was tied in the race for Angler of the year, finished sixth and captured the AOY title by tiebreaker of most pounds for the year with 115.63 pounds.

Harry Cooper won day-one big bass with a 4.52 pounder.

The points champion from each division will compete in the annual American Bass Anglers AFT Angler of The Year Final Round at the AFT Championship. In addition, the top 500 anglers from the various divisions will earn the right to compete in the three-day ABA, AFT National Championship tournament.
