Dennis Shiley Wins at Lake Guntersville

On Saturday, May 16, 2026, anglers from across the region gathered on legendary Lake Guntersville for the American Bass Anglers Division 29, North Alabama event. Competitors launched from GTO Tackle & Grill and were greeted with favorable conditions on one of the nation’s premier bass fisheries. Known for producing giant largemouth bass and heavy tournament limits year-round, Guntersville once again lived up to its reputation.

When the scales closed, Dennis Shiley of Adairsville, Alabama, stood at the top of the leaderboard with an impressive five-bass limit weighing 20.47 pounds. Shiley’s strong performance earned him the first-place victory and a cash prize of $651. He also captured tournament Big Bass honors with a massive 8.66-pound largemouth worth an additional $270.

Shiley reported that a spoon and a Carolina rig were his key baits throughout the day, with the Carolina rig producing the tournament’s biggest bass. His ability to capitalize on Guntersville’s offshore structure and quality fish helped secure a narrow victory in one of the closest finishes of the season.

Finishing just behind the winner was Chris Gentry of Temple, Georgia, who brought in a five-bass limit weighing 20.42 pounds. Gentry’s excellent catch earned him a second-place finish and $404.

Third place went to Hunter Silverstrim of Indian Mound, Tennessee, with another impressive five-bass limit weighing 20.27 pounds. Silverstrim earned $137 and also weighed in the tournament’s second-largest bass at 7.34 pounds.

The event drew a strong field of 28 boats, reflecting the continued growth and popularity of the Division 29 North Alabama trail. With weights this close at the top, every fish proved critical on a lake known for producing heavyweight bags and dramatic finishes.

The next stop for the 2026 American Bass Anglers Division 29 – North Alabama Trail is scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026, once again on Lake Guntersville, launching from GTO Tackle & Grill. The event will serve as Stop #5 of the season.
