June 6, 2024 – Randy Woodham of Buckhead, GA, emerged victorious at the AFT D72 Two-Day Championship held on June 1 and 2 at Lakes Sinclair and Oconee. Woodham’s impressive performance on both days secured his first-place finish and a cash prize of $1,674. On Day 1, Woodham weighed in his top five fish, totaling 20.30 pounds, including a notable 5.95-pound bass, putting him in the lead. He continued his strong performance on Day 2, bringing in another solid catch weighing 17.53 pounds. His two-day total of 37.83 pounds earned him the championship title.
Oliver Brooks of Stone Mountain, GA, won the Day 1 Big Bass pot with a 6.04-pound bass from Lake Sinclair, earning $590 and a trophy.
Chris Saunders of Forsyth, GA took home the Day 2 Big Bass pot with a 6.64-pound bass from Lake Oconee, also winning $590 and a trophy.
A total of 59 anglers participated in the event, competing for a share of the $5,782 payout distributed among the top nine finishers. Trophies were awarded to the top six places.
Participants and their families enjoyed a variety of refreshments, including pizza, salad, and cookies, during the weigh-in. Special awards were given for the 2024 season following the trophy and cash award presentations. Aaron Batson received $100 for the Big Bass of the Year with his 9.32-pound bass caught on January 13 at Lake Sinclair. Jerry Jones was awarded $100 for participating in all 14 tournaments this season. Grant Kelly and Scott Jeffers shared the Angler of the Year title and split a $250 cash award.
Special thanks were extended to Danny Taylor for his assistance throughout the season; he was gifted a set of custom-made cornhole boards. Additional prizes included two $100 gift cards from Sugar Creek Marina, won by Jamie Fountain and Clifford Avery, and a $50 gift card won by Steve Dobbs. Adam Windham and Jay Carter each won $50, while custom flags were awarded to Lance Collins and Larry Cason. Scott Jeffers received a $250 certificate for a custom Kissel Krafts rod.
