Grant Kelly Wins AFT D72 on Lake Sinclair

November 30, 2024 – Lake Sinclair, Georgia. Grant Kelly of Milledgeville, Georgia, claimed first place at the American Fishing Tour (AFT) Division 72 tournament held on Lake Sinclair. Kelly brought a five-bass limit to the scale, weighing an impressive 17.90 pounds, which included a 4.31-pound kicker. His performance earned him the first-place trophy and a cash prize of $735.

Carl Hayes of Eatonton, Georgia, secured second place with a five-bass limit weighing 14.74 pounds, anchored by a 5.49-pound bass. Hayes took home the second-place trophy and $461 in winnings.

Mark Burns of Good Hope, Georgia, captured the Big Bass title with a 5.64-pound largemouth. His catch won him the Big Bass pot of $350 and the Big Bass trophy.

The tournament saw participation from 35 anglers, with a total payout of $1,715 distributed among the top six places.

In addition to the payouts, anglers present participated in a series of prize draws. David Mitchell and Jeremy York each won $50 cash, Rob Johnston won a $100 gift certificate for a custom wooden flag, and Grant Kelly won a $200 gift certificate for a Kissel Krafts rod.

Special thanks were extended to Les Charles, Bob Clark, and David Mitchell for assisting with morning registration, boat checks, and weigh-in operations.

Upcoming Event
The next Division 72 tournament will be held on December 7, 2024, at Lake Oconee, launching from Sugar Creek Marina. For more information, contact Division Director Benny Howell at (770) 365-4795.

These anglers earn valuable points toward the divisional angler of the year title. The points champion from each division will compete in the annual American Bass Anglers AFT Angler of The Year Final Round at the AFT Championship. In addition, the top 500 anglers from the various divisions will earn the right to compete in the three-day ABA AFT National Championship tournament to be held in October 2025 on Lake Eufaula.

These tournaments are crucial for anglers as they accumulate points toward the coveted Divisional Angler of the Year title. Points champions from each division will compete in the American Bass Anglers AFT Angler of the Year Final Round, held at the AFT Championship. Additionally, the top 500 anglers from all divisions will qualify for the three-day ABA AFT National Championship, taking place next October on Lake Eufaula.
