Based in Vancleave, Mississippi, John Young Jr. has been a dominant force in competitive bass fishing for over 45 years. Specializing in rivers and tidal fisheries, his home waters on the Pascagoula River have shaped his ability to adapt and excel in dynamic fishing conditions throughout the Southeast.
With more than 200 tournament wins across Local, ABA, and TBF events, John’s resume speaks for itself. One of his most remarkable victories came in Florida, where he topped a massive 550-boat field to win a tournament that raised $30,000 for Child Advocacy programs. His consistency and skill on the water have made him a recognized name in the sport.
Beyond his own success, John is passionate about giving back to the fishing community. As president of Jackson County Bassmasters, he helps organize events and mentor fellow anglers. He also captains the local High School Bass Fishing Team and led his squad to a win in the Captains Division. His commitment extends to causes like St. Jude Children’s Hospital and other charitable organizations.
John’s favorite bait is the spinnerbait—a lure that has earned him thousands in tournament winnings. With decades of competitive experience and a heart for service, John continues to inspire and support the next generation of anglers while staying fiercely competitive on the water.
