Three Honored with Induction into the American Bass Anglers Hall of Fame

May 2025 – Athens, AL – American Bass Anglers proudly announces the induction of three exceptional anglers into the ABA Hall of Fame, recognizing not only their accomplishments on the water but their dedication to the values and spirit that define the ABA community.

This year’s inductees—Rodney “Krowbar” Cromer, Elvin Jennings, and Calvin “Catfish” Hunter—embody the highest standards of sportsmanship, character, and unwavering support of fellow anglers. Their contributions span decades and have helped shape ABA into the organization it is today.

Rodney “Krowbar” Cromer

Rodney Cromer began his ABA journey in December 2004 and has since built a legacy of dedication and service. A retired firefighter, Rodney has fished consistently for two decades across multiple AFT divisions and the American Couples Series. He has competed in 18 of the last 20 AFT National Championships and regularly represents the Homeland Security team during ABA’s patriotic flag ceremony—often carrying their flag.

Cromer is known for his mechanical know-how and generous spirit. Whether it’s repairing breakdowns at the ramp, changing props on the fly, or traveling miles on the water to help a fellow competitor, Rodney is always ready to lend a hand. He’s assisted anglers with everything from flat tires to dead batteries—often sacrificing his own fishing time to do so.

His reputation as a friend and mentor has brought new members to the ABA and made him a standout ambassador for the organization. A true embodiment of ABA’s mission and values, Rodney “Krowbar” Cromer enters the Hall of Fame as a shining example of dedication and integrity.

Elvin Jennings

Elvin Jennings became a Life Member in 2009 and has worn many hats in the ABA community. After just one season as a competitor, he stepped up as a division director—and has continued in that role ever since. In 2024, he expanded his leadership by taking on the directorship of a Team Series division as well.

Elvin’s influence stretches beyond the water. He regularly represents ABA at major outdoor expos in Virginia and North Carolina, working in partnership with Anglers Choice Marine to distribute information and grow awareness. His grassroots efforts have significantly increased participation in his division—from fewer than ten anglers in 2007 to more than 30 at recent events.

A pioneer in digital communication among ABA directors, Elvin was one of the first to establish a Facebook presence for his division, using the platform to keep his anglers informed and engaged.

Known for his respectful, fair approach and genuine passion for helping others, Elvin Jennings is a role model among ABA leadership and a deserving member of the ABA Hall of Fame.

Calvin “Catfish” Hunter

A proud Navy veteran, Calvin “Catfish” Hunter has become a pillar of his fishing community and an exceptional ambassador for ABA. A familiar face at Bass Pro Shops’ Spring and Fall Fishing Classics, Catfish is often found mentoring young anglers at the catch-and-release pond—spending hours sharing tips and encouraging the next generation.

He’s not only helped grow membership in nearby AFT divisions through personal outreach and promotion, but he’s also opened his own lake house to fellow anglers, offering lodging to help others cut travel costs and make tournament participation more accessible.

Calvin’s heart for service is perhaps most visible in his annual charity tournament for disabled veterans. His tireless work organizing the event gives wounded warriors a day on the water filled with camaraderie and joy, supported by ABA members who serve as boat captains and hosts.

Twice a member of the All-Navy Team and a former Navy Angler of the Year, Calvin “Catfish” Hunter exemplifies selflessness, leadership, and goodwill—making his Hall of Fame induction both fitting and well-earned.

These three anglers represent the very best of American Bass Anglers. Their decades of service, leadership, and sportsmanship have left a lasting mark on the organization and the fishing community as a whole. The ABA is honored to welcome Rodney Cromer, Elvin Jennings, and Calvin Hunter into the Hall of Fame Class of 2025.
